Rochester Prep Elementary School
Jaimie Brillante, Principal
Jaimie Brillante was the founding writing teacher at Rochester Prep Brooks Campus Middle School in 2006 before becoming principal of the Rochester Prep Elementary School at the start of the 2012-2013 school year. Prior to joining Uncommon Schools, Ms. Brillante taught 5th grade writing at Edward Brooke Charter School in Boston, Massachusetts. A 2000 Teach for America Alum, Ms. Brillante also taught 2nd grade in the Bronx for 3 years. Ms. Brillante received her B.A. in history from Allegheny College and her M.S. in Teaching from Pace University.
Brian Marciano, Director of Operations
Brian Marciano started his career at Rochester Prep in 2010 as a Special Projects Coordinator at the Brooks Campus. Later that year he became the Founding Director of Operations at Rochester Prep Elementary-Jay St. Prior to joining Rochester Prep, Brian spent 13 years at Rochester Coca-Cola in various roles, the last six years as the Branch Business Manager. Brian attended the State University of New York, College at Brockport and holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration.
Rochester Prep West Campus Elementary School
Emily Volpe, Principal
Emily Volpe joined Rochester Prep Brooks Middle School in 2008 and taught science for four years. She then transferred to Rochester Prep Elementary as the Director of Staff Development while completing her Instructional Fellowship. In 2013, she helped found Rochester Prep Elementary West Campus. Emily holds two undergraduate degrees from Johns Hopkins University as well as a graduate degree from Pace University in New York City where she was also a Teach for America corps member.
Kaitlin Driscoll, Director of Operations
Kaitlin Driscoll started her career at Rochester Prep in 2007 as a physical education teacher and basketball coach. In 2008 she took on the Athletic Director role for Uncommon Schools Rochester Prep until 2013 when she began her new role as Founding Director of Operations of Rochester Prep West Elementary School. Kaitlin attended Roberts Wesleyan College, holds a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education from The College at Brockport: State University of New York and a Master’s Degree in Sports Management from West Virginia University. She has her Professional Certification in New York State to teach as a Physical Education teacher.
Rochester Prep Elementary School #3
Christopher Shaffer, Principal
Christopher Shaffer joined Rochester Prep in 2011, and has served as a Reading Specialist, Lead Second Grade Teacher, Dean of Curriculum and Instruction, and now Principal of Rochester Prep’s third elementary school. Prior to working for Rochester Prep, Mr. Shaffer taught kindergarten, third, and fifth grade in Charlotte, NC for 6 years. Mr. Shaffer is a graduate from West Liberty State College with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. In 2014, he earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from St. John Fisher.
Amy Sponsler, Director of Operations
Amy Sponsler joined Rochester Prep in 2014 and served as an Operations Fellow at Rochester Prep Elementary-Jay Street before becoming the Founding Director of Operations at Rochester Prep Elementary 3. Prior to joining Rochester Prep, Ms. Sponsler taught middle school Spanish in rural North Carolina as a Teach for America corps member and spent 7 years as a student affairs administrator at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She holds a B.A. in Sociology and an Ed.M. in Educational Organization and Leadership, both from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
Rochester Prep Middle School Brooks Campus
Patrick Pastore, Principal
Patrick Pastore began his teaching career as the founding 5th grade reading teacher at Rochester Prep Brooks Campus Middle School in 2006. He then moved on to teach 6th and 8th grade reading over the course of his seven year tenure in the classroom before becoming Principal there at the start of the 2013-2014 school year. Mr. Pastore received his B.S. in Childhood and Special Education (1-6) from SUNY Geneseo and his M.S.Ed in Childhood Curriculum from SUNY Brockport.
Tocarra Hughes, Director of Operations
Tocarra Hughes is a proud Rochester native who has worked with youth and families in the local community for over 10 years. Prior to joining Rochester Prep, Mrs. Hughes worked at Hillside Work Scholarship Connection for 7 years as a Youth Advocate and was later promoted to Zone Director. In 2014, Mrs. Hughes joined Rochester Prep Middle School – Brooks Campus as an Operations Fellow, and later transitioned to become the Director of Operations of Brooks Campus in 2016. Mrs. Hughes received her B.A. degree in Political Science from The University of Charleston in Charleston, West Virginia and M.S. degree in Strategic Leadership from Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York.
Rochester Prep Middle School West Campus
Adrienne Sopinski, Principal
Prior to 2015 when she began as Principal at Rochester Prep Middle School – West Campus, Ms. Sopinski worked for six years as a teacher and Dean of Curriculum and Instruction at Rochester Prep Brooks Campus. Ms. Sopinski taught English language arts and history in grades five, six, and eight and coached teachers of all subjects. Before joining Rochester Prep, Ms. Sopinski taught integrated reading intervention and served on the leadership team at Fair Haven K-8 School in the New Haven Public School District. As a Teach For America corps member, Ms. Sopinski led her students to 1.7 years and 2.1 years of reading growth in her first and second years teaching and was nominated for the Sue Lehmann Award for Excellence in Teaching. Ms. Sopinski holds a B.A. from the University of Rochester in English and French and a M.Ed. from Hunter College in Manhattan. In 2016, Ms. Sopinski completed the National Principals Academy Fellowship.
Jonathan Myler, Director of Operations
Jonathan Myler is the Director of Operations at Rochester Prep West Campus Middle School. Prior to his current role, Mr. Myler served Rochester Prep in a variety of roles. He was the founding math teacher at Rochester Prep West Campus in 2011 and most recently was the Director of Special Projects at the West Campus. Mr. Myler holds a dual certification Masters’ degree in Elementary and Special Education from St. John Fisher College and a B.A. in Journalism/Communications from St. Bonaventure University.
Rochester Prep High School
Ted Eckert, Principal
Ted Eckert jointed Rochester Prep as the Dean of Curriculum and Instruction at Brooks Campus Middle School at the start of the 2015–2016 school year. Ted has previously worked as an Academic Dean at Achievement First in Bridgeport, CT, and as a school founder of Growing Up Green Charter School in New York City. He began his teaching career at the Bronx Lighthouse Charter School. Ted holds both a B.A. in English and a M.A. in Curriculum and Teaching from Columbia University. Though a Buffalo native, Ted is now a proud Rochestarian, along with his wife and three children.
Chassity Wells, Director of Operations
Chassity joined Rochester Prep in June of 2017 as an Operations Fellow at Rochester Prep West Elementary. In April of 2018, Chassity transitioned into the role of Director of Operations at Rochester Prep High School. She holds a bachelor in communications from Pennsylvania State University and an MBA in Marketing, Strategy and Entrepreneurship from the Simon School of Business. Prior to working at Rochester Prep, Chassity worked in education as an elementary school teacher and the non-profit sector in various roles, in addition to running and founding her own non-profit organization.
